At this year’s International Safety@Sea Awards, hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore on August 31st, our new mobile training app, AE-Flix, took top honours in the open category for its innovative approach to training and technology.
Earlier this year, Anglo-Eastern launched a new mobile-based digital learning management system branded AE-Flix. One of the prime motivating factors for developing the mobile app is to realign learning-based operations with the needs of the current generation of seafarers.
As such, AE-Flix was specifically designed with today’s younger generations in mind, taking inspiration from Netflix, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp, and incorporating short video bytes/reels, gaming and virtual reality for broader variety, experiences and appeal.
The app is designed to facilitate training and learning anytime, anywhere, both on board and ashore. The platform is also highly scalable and can be used by a large volume of seafarers simultaneously.
In terms of training offerings, AE-Flix supports individual, personalised training according to a seafarer’s rank and assigned ship type. Seafarers are nevertheless free to access any course from the library outside of their learning plans and are rewarded for taking such initiative, thus adding a gaming element to the learning process.
At the same time, AE-Flix benefits shore-based training personnel by allowing them to view the training profiles and progress of seafarers, so that they can offer better guidance, adjust learning plans, and the like. Surveys can also be conducted in the app and various analytics obtained from the responses.
We are excited to be at the forefront of new training technologies and delighted to have been formally recognised for AE-Flix, which we hope will benefit seafarers by fostering a culture of continuous, lifelong learning, with a focus on safety.
