WHAT YOU'LL DO
Deck officers work primarily on the bridge of the ship to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel. In port, deck officers ensure the safe loading and unloading of the vessel. As a deck cadet, you will learn how to maintain the vessel, look after and inspect the life-saving and firefighting equipment, as well as navigation. Deck officers can progress through the ranks to Master.
Courses:
Bridge Watchkeeping, Celestial Navigation, Chartwork, Tides & Sailing, Emergency Response & Communications, Ship Construction, Law & Management, Cargo Work, Navigation ARPA & Radar, and Stability.
The Fun Stuff:
Fire Fighting, First Aid, Survival Craft & Rescue Boat, Security Awareness & First Aid.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
- UK Passport Holder (due to Government Funding Requirements)
- Minimum of 4 National Fives or GCSE or Equivalent
- Aged 17 ½ years old at the Start of Training
- Able to pass an ENG 1 Medical (unrestricted)
